Sumilon.  I’m back to this paradise for the third time.  With its magnificence, I haved dubbed Sumilon my own island.  There’s nothing like it anywhere in Cebu.  It’s my retreat place – peaceful, relaxing, serene.  I always run out of words when someone asks me to describe the island.

It’s almost at the tip of Cebu, a 3-hour bus ride from the city proper.  In all occasions, we left at 4am via Ceres bus from the South Bus Terminal (I recommend eating breakfast before the trip).  If you’re not sure which bus to take, you can ask ask around or look for the signage, “OSLOB”. You can ask either the bus driver/conductor to drop you by the Sumilon wharf.  Don’t worry, they always remember. 😀

The boat to Sumilon island usually takes 15-20 minutes.  There’s one as early as 7am and 9am.  The following are the schedules from Sumilon to Cebu mainland:

Departure Arrival
9:00am 9:15am
10:30am 10:45am
12:00nn 12:15pm
1:30pm 1:45pm
3:30pm 3:45pm
5:30pm 5:45pm

In all occasions, we took their day tour package.  For P2,000, you can have the island to yourself for a day (see packages below).  If you’re into trekking, I recommend you trek early in the morning when the sun isn’t too hot.  You’ll love the view when you get to the top: you will literally see both Cebu, Sumilon, and Dumaguete all in one place.  Among the other stops are the little lighthouse in the middle of Sumilon and that spot where the shifting sandbar is.

Anyways, you see, I’m already out of words.  It’s best you give this island a visit and I hope my pictures do justice to this less explored paradise. Please scroll down to see more of their packages and pictures.

Some pictures I took several years ago.
